Wapato, WA (July 21, 2025) — Altera is proud to be recognized as an official affiliate of the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA), a leading organization committed to advancing digital equity across the United States. Their listing on the NDIA’s national map—now updated with their official name and a direct link to their website—serves as a resource for connecting with other digital inclusion leaders across the country.

As part of its growing national presence, Altera has been invited to participate in the Indigenous Digital Equity & Innovation Summit, taking place August 28–29, 2025, in Polson, Montana. The summit brings together Indigenous leaders, digital equity advocates, and community partners to explore innovations that support equitable access to technology and opportunity. They look forward to joining this important conversation and share their work on inclusive, community-rooted solutions.

In addition, Altera has been preliminarily selected as a finalist in the AI Use Case Showdown at the 2025 AI Expo hosted by NCW Tech Alliance in Wenatchee, Washington, on August 14, 2025. This Microsoft-sponsored event highlights real-world applications of artificial intelligence that have the power to drive meaningful change.

Altera’s submission tells the story of how they are using AI to support universal access to education through a curriculum that can be delivered to homes anywhere via solar-powered cell phones. By leveraging AI to eliminate literacy and language barriers—within a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework—their solution is designed to reach underserved, often isolated rural families around the world.

"These new opportunities provided by AI mean that Altera can expand educational access to people and communities who have never enjoyed these opportunities before,” said Dr. Barbara Peterson, Executive Director, Altera. “And not just here, but all over the world.”

As emphasized by the event organizers, the most compelling presentations focus on stories and impact that others can be inspired by. Their narrative centers on how meaningful curriculum, enhanced by AI, has the capacity to change lives at scale—especially for communities often left behind by traditional models

Whether through national summits or AI innovation showcases, Altera remains committed to bridging digital divides and delivering transformative solutions to families and communities.

Altera conducts our work on traditional lands of the Wanapum, Yakama, Colville and Quinalt People past and present. We honor the land itself and its multi-generational stewards who demonstrate in perpetuity a commitment to building relationships with Indigenous people for a positive future in Washington State and the entire region.
